Chandigarh, June 1: Like Canada and America, the Punjab Police will now keep an eye on every movement of drug smugglers after they come out of jail. For this, the police will put GPS tracking anklets on the feet of drug smugglers after they come out of jail. This project will be started after taking legal advice.

This claim has been made by Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav. He said that it will be used when big drug smugglers come out of jail. Jammu and Kashmir Police is using this thing. Police is using it against terrorists and drug smugglers. At the same time, the campaign to catch drug smugglers is not over yet. It is still going on continuously.

Every movement will be monitored

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that when an accused gets bail, there are certain conditions that have to be followed. Such people need to be monitored. As we have studied other states, Jammu and Kashmir uses a GPS tracking system when prisoners in UAPA cases come out of jail.

We are also planning to use this against big drug smugglers. For this, we will get it installed with the court’s order. Our effort will be to ensure that no one’s human rights are violated. However, if anyone tries to break this system, the police will find out about them.

250 FIRs registered for drug smuggling in jails

Jails are being upgraded with Rs 500 crore. Drug addicts coming to jails can be taken towards de-addiction. Work is being done in this direction. During this period, more than 250 such FIRs have been registered, which shows that drugs have been recovered in jails.

In such a situation, the role of jail employees and officers is being investigated. The High Court has also clearly said that such employees will not be tolerated. Action will be taken against them. In the villages where resolutions to end drug abuse have been passed, drug abuse has indeed ended in those villages.

This will be investigated. We will talk to the Panchayat and BDC members about this, in which it will be found out who is selling the drugs and where the drugs are coming from outside.

Police officers will adopt drug users

Punjab Police officers will now adopt a drug user. They will motivate them to stop taking drugs. Also, they will be encouraged to start a normal life again. This work will be done on a completely voluntary basis. The DGP said that he himself will participate in this campaign. It has been named “Each One Adopt One”. The DGP has appealed to all the people to cooperate in this.
