Punjab Police’s “PPSaanjh.in” website down for 3 days, Disrupts services and raises concerns over digital preparedness

The official website of Punjab Police's Saanjh initiative, PPSaanjh.in, has been down for the last 3 days, causing hindrance in the functioning of the police and inconvenience to the people.

Chandigarh, May 2: The official website of Punjab Police’s Saanjh initiative, PPSaanjh.in, has been down for the last 3 days, causing hindrance in the functioning of the police and inconvenience to the people. The site was down since yesterday morning and was still not working till Friday when the news was written.

This has exposed a major technical flaw in a department that prides itself on being tech-savvy. The Saanjh portal, which people use for police verification, applications, reporting lost mobile phones and documents and even passport-related verifications, has now come to a complete standstill.

People are facing difficulties in getting work done

Manjeet Singh, a resident of Civil Lines, said he lost his wallet, which contained his driving licence, PAN card, Aadhaar card and debit and credit cards, while going to his office. He tried to report the loss on the Saanjh website but was unsuccessful.

He then went to the Saanjh Kendra near his house. The staff there said they could not help because the website for entering such information was down. He said, I was asked to come again when the website is up and running.

Police department work also stopped

Police officers are also facing problems. With the site down, departments are unable to upload copies of FIRs, missing persons reports or details about unidentified bodies – all of which are routine but essential services.

The SHO of a Ludhiana police station, on the condition of anonymity, said they are unable to upload FIRs and other reports. When the website becomes operational again, they will have a huge backlog of pending work.

The crash has paralysed the functioning of police stations and key branches across Punjab, raising questions about the department’s preparedness and its much-touted digital initiatives.

Senior officials including Special Director General of Police Gurpreet Kaur Deo and ADGP Modernisation were contacted but could not be contacted. So far, no official statement has been issued by the Punjab Police regarding the cause of the crash or when the website will be restored.
