Sangrur: Punjab Sangrur village Kapial 18 buffaloes of the Gujar community have died after drinking contaminated water. Several others are in critical condition. According to Musa Khan son of Alfadin and Gama Khan son of Kasam Khan, the water was poisoned, which led to the death of the buffaloes. A team of doctors has arrived at the location to treat the sick buffaloes.
The victims of the incident are natives of Himachal Pradesh and have been residing in their camp at Dhura village near Dhuri of Sangrur district in Punjab for around 25-30 years. One of the victims stated that he is engaged in animal husbandry and earns his livelihood by selling milk.
Even today they came to graze on the road coming from village Sanghredi to village Kapial with their 32 buffaloes. In the meantime, when he watered his buffaloes from a motor-driven trough in the fields here in the afternoon, as soon as they saw them, one by one, the buffaloes started falling on the ground and died.
He said that in this incident, 12 buffaloes of Musa Khan and 6 buffaloes of Gama Khan died and the condition of more than 7 buffaloes of both of them is still very serious.
They demanded from the Punjab government that compensation should be given for this loss caused to them. The victims also appealed to the social service organizations that they used to support their families only with buffalo milk and now their livelihood has become difficult, so they should be helped as much as possible.
Tehsildar Bhawanigarh Surinderpal Pannu and Gagandeep Singh Veterinary Inspector Gharachon, who arrived on the Incident place , said that the postmortem of the dead buffaloes will be conducted and only after the postmortem report comes, the real reasons for the death of the buffaloes will be known.
