Nawanshahr: In Punjab, three members of the same family ended their lives by consuming poisonous substances in Mallpur Adka village, about five kilometres away from Nawanshahr, while the 11-12-year-old girl of that family had gone to school. According to the information received from the police of Thana Sadar Nawanshahr, 37-year-old Avtar Singh, a resident of village Malpur Adka, was living happily with his 35-year-old wife Sonia and 15-year-old elder daughter and younger daughter.
On Wednesday morning, for some reason, Avtar Singh, his wife Sonia, and his elder daughter were eating food at home. They accidentally consumed some poisonous substance, while the younger girl of 11–12 years had gone to school. Seeing the situation worsening, some people admitted 11-year-old Sonia and her elder daughter to a private hospital in Nawanshahr for treatment.
Giving information, the head doctor of the hospital said that Sonia and her daughter were admitted to the hospital at around 8:30 am. He said that it was being told that both of them had swallowed sulfur medicine, but despite a lot of efforts, both of them could not be saved. He told me that the girl died at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and Sonia died at noon. Meanwhile, Sonia’s husband Avtar Singh’s condition also deteriorated, and he was admitted to the Civil Hospital of Nawanshahr. He also died during treatment at around 1.30 pm. Now only the 11-12-year-old girl who goes to school is left in the house.
ASI Mohinder Pal of Police Station Sadar Nawanshahr said that the bodies of Sonia and her daughter have been kept in the crematorium of Pandora Mohalla, while Avtar Singh’s body has been kept in the Civil Hospital. He told me that Avtar Singh’s relatives have gone abroad, and the postmortem of all three bodies will be done only after they return from abroad.
After receiving the information, the police took the bodies of the three deceased into custody and sent them to Civil Hospital Nawanshahr for a postmortem and started further action. As soon as this information was received, there was a wave of mourning in the village and among the family members and relatives.
