Clerk arrests for taking bribe in Amritsar

The Vigilance Bureau team took action and was caught red-handed, taking 20 thousand rupees. 

Amritsar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau in Amritsar on Thursday arrested the registry clerk-cum-reader of Naib Tehsildar, Baba Bakala. He was caught red-handed with a bribe of Rs 20,000. The clerk had demanded Rs 30000 to correct the name in the mutation.

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the accused has been arrested based on a complaint by Arpan Singh, a resident of village Dhanaula Purana, Tehsil Baba Bakala, District Amritsar.

The spokesperson said that the complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau and alleged in his complaint that the said accused (registry clerk) had demanded Rs 30,000 to correct the name of the complainant’s father in the mutation of his ancestral land. The complainant further said that the accused clerk had already taken Rs 10,000 as the first instalment for this work.

The spokesperson further said that after a preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of the Vigilance Bureau caught the accused red-handed while taking the second instalment of Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

The spokesperson further informed that a case has been registered in this regard under the Anti-Corruption Act at Amritsar Range Police Station of the Bureau. The accused will be produced in court tomorrow, and during further investigation in this regard, the role of the Naib Tehsildar will also be investigated.
