Head constable arrests while taking bribe in Nawanshahr

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau team took action and demanded 10 thousand rupees from a woman.

Nawanshahr: Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Head Constable Avtar Singh, posted at Banga City Police Station, Nawanshahr (S.B.S. Nagar), red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 5000.

Giving information, the spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the accused, Avtar Singh, has been arrested based on a complaint by Rekha Devi, a resident of Banga City. The complainant woman contacted the Vigilance Bureau and told them that a case had been registered against her son at Banga Police Station, and the said policeman took her son’s side while presenting the challan in court and acquitted him of it.

In return for this case, he is demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000. The complainant also alleged that the said policeman had already taken a bribe of Rs 5500 from him in instalments. After a preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and arrested the accused red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

In this regard, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Jalandhar Range Police Station of the Vigilance Bureau. He said that the accused was produced in court, and further action in the case is underway.
