Punjab Vigilance Bureau nabs ASI for accepting bribe, was involved in ‘Honey Trap Network’

Tarn Taran: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raj Kumar posted at District Tarn Taran Police Helpline No. 112 on Tuesday for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 as part of the anti-corruption campaign in the state. According to the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, this arrest was made after the complaint.

According to the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, this arrest was made after the complaint of Raj Karan, a resident of Moradpur in Tarn Taran district.

The spokesperson further said that the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau alleging that the ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 in exchange for returning his mobile phone and protecting the complainant’s close associate from a fake NDPS case.

He said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the team of the Vigilance Bureau laid a trap and arrested the said accused red-handed by taking a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

The spokesperson said that during the investigation, it has come to light that the said policeman was a part of a ‘honey trap network’, which included other police officers and private individuals including women. This accused, with the connivance of his fellow women, used to force unknown persons to take them to hotels by seducing them and later he himself reached the spot along with his other policemen and blackmailed the victims to collect huge sums of money.

In this regard, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the police station range of the Vigilance Bureau, Amritsar. He said that the accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and further investigation of the matter is going on.
