New Delhi: MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu has become Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan. He won the election unopposed as the Congress party didn’t field any candidate against him. Today was the last day to file nominations for the by-poll till 3 pm. His victory was confirmed when no one except him filed nomination and thus was declared winner unopposed without voting.

Congress decided not to field any contender for the seat and thus left Ravneet Bittu alone in the fray. Today after 3 pm when the returning officer didn’t receive any nomination, the officer declared MoS Bittu as a member of council of states. A certificate of election was also issued by the officer to Ravneet Bittu.

After Congress did not field any candidate in these by-elections, only 3 candidates were left among those who filed nomination papers. BJP’s dummy candidate Sunil Kothari has already withdrawn his nomination. Apart from this, independent candidate Babita Wadhwani also had a nomination paper, which was canceled after scrutiny. After which Bittu was the only one left in the fray.

This by-election is being held on the seat that fell vacant after Congress’ KC Venugopal was elected as a Lok Sabha member. The term of membership on this seat will be till June 21, 2026. Let us tell you that there are a total of 10 Rajya Sabha seats in Rajasthan. At present, the BJP has 4 and Congress has 5 seats.

In such a situation, Ravneet Bittu’s membership will end in June 2026. Bittu will have to turn to Rajya Sabha again to remain a Union Minister of State. Talking about Punjab, none of the 7 seats here will be vacant before 2028. At the same time, the next Lok Sabha elections will also be held in 2029.
