Red alert for heat wave in 6 districts of Punjab

Severe heat will continue in Punjab today. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert regarding the heatwave today as well. A western disturbance is expected to become active from today, which may bring some changes in the weather. However, the temperature has decreased by only 0.1 degree in the last 24 hours. But the temperature still remains about 5 degrees above normal. Bathinda was the hottest, where a temperature of 46 degrees was recorded.

Due to the heat, electricity consumption has also increased rapidly. A statement issued by Patiala PSPCL on Friday claimed that till now the electricity consumption has crossed 16 and a half thousand MW. This consumption will cross 17 thousand MW by the end of this month. This is the data of the highest electricity consumption so far.

There will also be power cuts in many areas of Punjab today. However, the electricity department says that we have the capacity to supply up to 17 thousand MW of electricity and we are ready to deal with the situation. The temperature in Chandigarh has also been recorded at 41.7 degrees.

Amid the scorching heat, the state has been divided into three parts, according to which the weather forecast has been issued. In which a red alert of heatwave has been issued in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Fazilka. The temperature is likely to remain high even at night.

At the same time, there is an orange alert in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Nawanshahr, Moga, Barnala, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Patiala and Mansa. There is a possibility of heatwave and more heat at night in these places. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar adjoining the mountains.
