Khanna: A retired manager of Punjab National Bank was cyber-frauded in Khanna of Ludhiana district. The retired manager was so enticed by the fraudsters that he agreed to everything they said, and by the time he realized that he had fallen into the trap of a gang, the fraudsters had transferred 10 lakh rupees.
By the time the complaint reached the cyber cell, the fraudsters had withdrawn this amount in various ways. At present, a complaint has been lodged by the victim manager.
Bhupinder Kumar Vij, who lives in Krishna Nagar, said that he has retired as a manager from Punjab National Bank. A link to make a credit card came on Facebook. He clicked on it. While clicking it, he got a call on WhatsApp. The caller said that he was calling from the head office.
When he clicked on the link on WhatsApp, his mobile screen was shared. The caller kept him engaged in conversation. However, during this time he realized that he was being duped online. He transferred Rs 1 lakh from one of his accounts to another. Meanwhile, an attempt was made to freeze the accounts through mobile banking. But the option of disabling kept coming. As the fraudster had already changed the settings through mobile screen sharing. In about 45 minutes, Rs 10 lakh were transferred from his account.
Later he came to know that the fraudsters got his civil score checked by Punjab National Bank through his mobile app and also applied for a loan of Rs 8 lakh, and the bank people also passed the loan in 5 minutes without any verification and put the payment in the account.
Inspector Vinod Kumar, in charge of the cyber cell, said that as soon as Bhupinder Kumar Vij came to him with a complaint, he investigated the entire network. The bank accounts in which the money was transferred and withdrawn from the ATM. Some transactions took place; all of them are related to Karnataka. 95 thousand rupees were left in one account; they were put on hold by the bank, and the account was frozen. His team is investigating thoroughly. Further action will be taken after discussing it with senior officials.
