Last week, Shiromani Akali Dal announced support to BSP candidate and withdrew support from Surjit Kaur. The support was withdrawn from Surjit Kaur as the party believed that she is one of those leaders from the rebel faction of SAD. Surjit Kaur, pick of SAD for the by-polls is a two-time municipal councilor who has now switched to Aam Aadmi Party.

After party decided to take back support from their own pick Surjit Kaur, SAD announced support to BSP candidate Lakha in the elections. At the time of nomination filing, SAD leaders Bibi Jagir Kaur, Congress turncoat Mohinder Kaypee were also present along with her at that time.

Rebellion voices have been aroused in the party after the results of Lok Sabha election 2024. SAD fielded its candidates on all 13 seats of the state but only one candidate, Harsimrat Kaur Badal was able to secure her seat. The rebel faction of SAD has raised questions about the leadership of party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
