Faridkot: Shiromani Akali Dal’s think tank advocate Mohinder Singh Romana passed away. He took his last breathe on Sunday at the age of 91. Romana, who had a special place in the sectarian politics of Sikhism and the politics of Punjab, was very close to both former Chief Minister Surjit Singh Barnala and former Chief Minister Badal.

Apart from being the head of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, he was also the chairman of the Punjab Tourism Development Corporation, a two-time member of SGPC, political advisor to former Chief Minister Barnala, and chairman of many departments. Late Romana was also a prominent member of the committee formed under the leadership of Giani Kartar Singh to determine the boundaries of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

A few years ago, when there was a lot of uproar in Punjab and Haryana over the division of Punjab, Haryana, and SGPC, Romana issued a statement saying that the division of SGPC could happen only after the bill was passed by the Parliament, after which the said matter ended.

Romana’s last rites will be performed in Faridkot on Tuesday at 3 pm. Romana’s death has given a big blow to the Akali Dal in Punjab.
