Chandigarh, April 27: The Samyukt Kisan Morcha and the Samyukt Mazdoor Morcha have expressed deep concern over recent actions by the Punjab Government, particularly following a meeting on March 19, 2025, in Chandigarh.

During this meeting, which was attended by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, discussions were held regarding farmers’ demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price(MSP). However, after the meeting, several farmer leaders were detained by the Punjab Police, leading to widespread criticism.

The letter further states that during the March 19 meeting in Chandigarh, discussions were held between central government officials and agricultural leaders. The Morcha emphasised that the responsibility for ensuring no further incidents, such as the arrest of farm leaders, fell on the central government during these talks. The letter urges the central government to take immediate steps to address the issue.

In addition, the Morcha requests that the Punjab Government’s representatives be excluded from the upcoming May 4 meeting in Chandigarh, as the involvement of Punjab officials would not be acceptable given the current sentiments of the farming community.

The Sayukt Kisan Morcha and Samyukt Mazdoor Morcha have stressed that they will not participate in the May 4 meeting if the Punjab government’s officials are included, as it would further damage the trust and morale of farmers across the nation. They have called for a prompt response from the central government regarding their concerns.

This letter, signed by Jagjit Singh Dallewal, marks a continued effort to ensure that farmers’ rights are respected and that future meetings are conducted in a manner that upholds the dignity and interests of agricultural workers.
