Chandigarh, June 27: In a strategic organisational shift, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Sanjeev Rana as the new General Secretary of its Chandigarh unit, signalling a clear focus on youth leadership and grassroots engagement ahead of the upcoming political season.
Sanjeev Rana has long been associated with various social causes and is known for his active involvement beyond traditional party lines. One of his most widely recognised initiatives is the patriotic campaign titled “Ek Eent Shaheed Ke Naam” (One Brick in the Name of a Martyr), under which he facilitated the construction of six memorials dedicated to martyrs.
This campaign garnered national recognition and brought together several prominent figures, including former President Ram Nath Kovind and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat. Many Governors and Chief Ministers from different states also extended their support to this cause, making it a symbol of collective national reverence for the country’s heroes.

Beyond his work on martyrdom memorials, Sanjeev Rana has been an active contributor to environmental protection initiatives, taking part in tree plantation drives, water conservation efforts, and sanitation campaigns. His environmental efforts have been visible not only in Chandigarh but across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, where he has consistently engaged in youth outreach and rural development projects.
Party insiders view his appointment as a strategic step to blend organizational strength with public connect. Rana represents a generation of leaders who embody both grassroots experience and a vision for inclusive development.
