Meeting in Delhi today on SYL canal issue, possibility of another clash between Punjab-Haryana

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has left for Delhi.

An important meeting is being held in New Delhi today, July 9, regarding the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal between Punjab and Haryana. The Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana and the Chief Secretary will also attend the meeting. This meeting has been called due to the efforts of the Central Government and is the fourth meeting held on this issue so far. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has left for Delhi.

This meeting will be chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. The Chief Ministers of both the states will present their respective sides. This meeting is also important because there is a hearing in the Supreme Court on the SYL issue on August 13. Before this hearing, the Central Government has started reconciling the two states on the SYL issue.

The Supreme Court had given instructions

Let us tell you that the Supreme Court had given instructions to resolve the ongoing SYL issue between Punjab and Haryana. The Supreme Court had directed the Union Jal Shakti Minister to resolve this issue. The Jal Shakti Minister has called this meeting as per the directions of the Supreme Court.

Three meetings have already been held

However, there have been several meetings on the SYL issue before, but no conclusion could be reached on it. The first meeting of the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana on this issue was held on 18 August 2020, while the second meeting was held on 14 October 2022 and the third meeting was held on 4 January 2023, but even then no solution could be reached. CM Mann said that there is a water crisis in Punjab and Punjab will not give water to Haryana.
