PRTC bus employees strike ends: Will meet CM Mann on 15th January

Employees will gather in Mohali, Punjab and from there they will proceed towards the CM residence in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh: Today was the second day of the strike by the drivers and conductors of government buses and other employees in Punjab. Now the employees will not go on strike tomorrow. In the meeting with the union, the government has assured of a meeting with CM Mann on January 15. More than 3 thousand government buses of Punjab Roadways, PRTC and Panbus were closed since yesterday i.e. Monday. Due to which people had to face a lot of trouble.

The government had suffered a loss of more than three and a half crore rupees due to the said shutdown. Today was the second day of their strike. After the meeting held in the afternoon, assurance of talks has been received from the government. After which the strike has been declared to be called off. The employees will gather in Mohali, Punjab and from there they moved towards the CM residence in Chandigarh. Who were stopped by the police from entering Chandigarh.

Strike ends on assurance of talks with the government

In Mohali, the Punjab Roadways, Panbus and PRTC Contract Workers Union Punjab started the protest from 10 am. At 12 noon, the employees were about to march towards the residence of the Chief Minister of Punjab, but the police stopped them.

After reaching Mohali, the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road was closed for the employees. After some time, the police also opened the highway. Let us tell you that this strike was for three days. Today was its second day. On the second day itself, the government has agreed to negotiate. Due to which the strike was called off.

The employees who went on strike said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had instructed the department to meet the demands within a day after the meeting with the union on July 1, 2024. It was also said that a separate policy should be made for the Transport Department. But, till now the demands are being ignored by the officials in every meeting.
