Amritsar, June 16: In Kolkata, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has been accused of throwing slippers on a Sikh man’s turban. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the incident. Dhami said that the turban is an integral part of Sikhism and a symbol of Sikh identity.
Its insult hurts the sentiments of the entire Sikh community. He said that it is the duty of the Union Ministers to respect all religions. The SGPC President recalled the contribution of the Sikh community. He said that Sikhs have made sacrifices for the freedom and integrity of the country. They have served humanity through langar and other services during disasters like earthquake and flood.
Dhami said that such a disgusting act by a person holding a constitutional post is sad. He has demanded strict action against the minister from the government. He also said that such incidents not only hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community, but also weaken the trust and harmony in the society.
