SGPC send legal notice to makers of ‘Emergency’, ask to cut objectionable scenes hurting ‘Sikh sentiments’

He said that while expressing strong objection to this film, various letters were written to the Information and Broadcasting Minister of the Government of India Ashwini Vaishnav and the Chairman of the Central Film Censor Board Prasoon Joshi to stop it.

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has sent a legal notice to the makers of Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’, which misrepresents the character and history of Sikhs, and asked them to cut the objectionable scenes with anti-Sikh sentiments. In the notice sent by Amanbir Singh Siali, The legal adviser of the Shiromani Committee,  the makers of the film, including Kangana Ranaut, have been asked to remove the trailer released from public and social media platforms and seek a written apology from the Sikh community.

Secretary of the Shiromani Committee Giving information, Pratap Singh said that as soon as the case of Kangana Ranaut’s emergency film came to mind, the Sikh organization started action against it expressing Sikh sentiments. He said that while expressing strong objection to this film, various letters were written to the Information and Broadcasting Minister of the Government of India Ashwini Vaishnav and the Chairman of the Central Film Censor Board Prasoon Joshi to stop it.

S. Pratap Singh said that according to the instructions of Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, a legal notice has been sent to the makers of this film including Kangana Ranaut. He said that after the release of the trailer of the movie Emergency, many anti-Sikh scenes had come out, which have deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.

In the film, the character of Sikhs including Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, has been made to show Sikhs as terrorists and separatists, which is unacceptable and far from the truth.

S. Pratap Singh said that only after the trailer of the film was released, there is a huge protest in the Sikh community, in view of which legal action has been initiated by the Shiromani Committee.

He said that if the objectionable anti-Sikh scenes are not cut by Kangana Ranaut and the filmmakers, then legal action will be taken against them at all levels and strong opposition will be taken.
