Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has written a letter to the Punjab government demanding exemption from foreign holidays to government employees going to visit Gurdwara Shri Kartarpur Sahib located in Pakistan. In a letter written to the Secretary of the Personnel Department of the state government, the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee said that through letter number 176 of the Personnel Department, dated 8 November 2019, officers/employees going to Sri Kartarpur Sahib (Pakistan) were exempted from foreign leave on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

The Punjab government has not extended this letter. Shiromani Committee Secretary Pratap Singh said that Sikhs have deep faith in Sri Kartarpur Sahib related to Guru Nanak Dev. On the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary, Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor was opened for devotees by the Government of India and Pakistan due to the long efforts of the Sikh Panth.

The employees have sent a letter to the Shiromani Committee that they are facing great difficulties to visit Sri Kartarpur Sahib. The officers/employees of Punjab government who want to go for Darshan have to go through a long process of foreign leave. Pratap Singh demanded from the Punjab government that all the officers/employees of the government should be permanently exempted from the process of foreign leave.
