New Delhi: The Hearing on Shambhu Border opening was held in the Supreme Court today and the border will not open any now. The Supreme Court posted the matter for hearing on September 2. In the matter pertaining to blockade on the National Highway at the Shambhu border, the court said that it will pass an order for the committee to negotiate with the protesting farmers within a week.

The Supreme Court, on Thursday, during a hearing regarding blockade on national highway at Shambu border, said that it will pass an order regarding the constitution of a committee to negotiate with the protesting farmers. However, the court has asked the counsel for both Punjab and Haryana states to submit the proposed subject of issues for the committee to be constituted by this court.

The court mentioned that it will formally constitute a committee within a week but wants the government to identify the issues that the committee should look into and the prescribed timeline for submitting the proposed subject of issues is three days.

The order read that the reference to the committee will be a wider mandate so that the issues that are time and again causing law and order problems can be amicably resolved in a fair and just manner. “

The order added that the representatives of the states shall continue to meet farmers and apprise the outcomes of such meetings on the next date of hearing which is September 2.

It is pertinent to mention that the Shambu border has been closed since February this year to prevent protesting farmers from Punjab from moving ahead towards Delhi. Last month in July, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered Haryana government to remove the barricades and open the Shambu border. Following this Haryana government moved to the Supreme Court against the High Court’s order.
