Golden temple Yoga instagram post sparks SGPC outrage: 3 suspends, Police Complaint File

Golden Temple General Manager Bhagwant Singh Dhangera said that yesterday a girl named Archana Makwana spread pictures of herself doing yoga asanas in the Golden Temple Parikrama.

Amritsar: Sharing pictures of doing yoga at the Golden Temple on International Yoga Day on social media proved costly for influencer Archana Makwana. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has filed a police complaint against Archana. At the same time, three workers on duty in the Golden Temple Parikrama have also been affected. An investigation committee has been set up against them.

Social media influencer Archana Makwana shared pictures of herself doing yoga on her social media account. Archana was seen doing this yoga in the Parikrama of the Golden Temple. In one picture, she was seen doing Dhyan Asana, while in another, she was seen doing Shirshasana.

On the orders of SGPC chief advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, a complaint against Archana has been given to the Police Commissioner Amritsar, while an inquiry has been started against the SGPC who were on duty in the Golden Temple Parikrama in the morning after allegations of negligence on duty.

Chief Dhami said that no one is allowed to do anything against Gurmat in the Golden Temple. But some people deliberately ignore the sanctity and historical importance of this holy place and do petty things. Recently, Sikh sentiments and dignity have been hurt by the act done by a girl. For which a letter has been written to the police to take action.

During this time, three security personnel were on duty there. After an initial investigation, they have been suspended, while one employee has been fined Rs 5,000 and transferred to Gurdwara Garhi Sahib Gurdas Nangal.

After the action taken by SGPC, Archana Makwana posted a story on her social media account and apologized. Archana said that she did not post anything on social media to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. She was not aware that doing yoga inside Gurdwara Sahib was wrong. She was just paying respect and did not want to hurt anyone.
