Chandigarh: In a major breakthrough, Khanna Police have solved the sensational Shiv Mandir theft case. 7 days after the theft, Khanna police busted an interstate theft gang. The gang was targeting religious places and carrying out similar incidents. The information about the same has been shared by Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav on his X handle.

In solving the case, Khanna Police worked in cooperation with Udham Singh Nagar Police, Uttarakhand and Lucknow Police. The busted gang was planning more robberies in future in temples of Tamil Nadu and Telangana. With this, the Police successfully averted the future robberies by the gang.
The police have recovered 3.63 kg of silver from their possession. According to the police, the accused were involved in targeting religious places and after stealing gold and silver ornaments, the accused used to sell it to a Lucknow-based jeweler. The arrested accused have been identified as Resham Singh alias Rinku (32) of Udham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand, Ravi Kumar (31) of Mehandpur of Ropar, Honey (19) of Mehandpur of Ropar and Rajeev Kumar alias Soni (45) of Lucknow. One of their aides, identified as Mohit of Utawal of Aligarh, is yet to be arrested. The accused Resham is facing at least 10 FIRs, mainly registered under section 380 of IPC. Meanwhile, accused Rajeev Kumar is a jeweler to whom the accused used to sell the stolen ornaments.
SSP Khanna Ashwini Gotyal said that the incident had occurred during wee hours of August 15 when some miscreants entered the Shivpuri temple in Khanna through window on roof of the temple and stole various gold and silver ornaments which were placed on idols, including silver flute of lord Krishna, silver garland around shivling and several others. The accused had also desecrated the shivling.
The police procured CCTV footage and recorded the statement of Subodh Mittal from the management committee following which a case under sections 331 (4), 305, 299 of BNS was registered at city Khanna police station and further investigation was initiated into the matter.
During investigation, the team received a tip about an inter-state gang following which with the help of Uttarakhand police, the raids were conducted and the accused Resham Singh was arrested from Delhi. Apart from this, with the help of Chandigarh Police, the accused Ravi Kumar was arrested from Chandigarh and accused Honey was arrested from Ropar.
SSP added that during investigation of the case, it has also come to light that this gang of thieves used to sell the stolen silver and gold ornaments to a Jeweler Rajeev Kumar. Based on this information Rajeev was nominated as accused in this case and he was arrested from Lucknow (UP) and the offence U/s 317 (2) BNS has been added in the said case.
The accused are being interrogated in-depth, from which more theft incidents are likely to be revealed. Moreover, a manhunt is on to arrest another accomplice Mohit.
About Shiv temple Theft Case
A shocking incident at Khanna’s famous Shivpuri temple had created a tense situation in the city. Two masked men entered the temple in the early hours of August 15 and smashed the Shivling with a hammer and crowbar and stole the silver kept there. Not only this, the thieves also stole the crowns and ornaments of other idols in the temple. They broke the cash boxes and stole the cash from them. Following the theft, angry people protested and blocked the highway. It was estimated that ornaments of idols and silver worth lakhs was stolen.
