Canadian police have arrested two 21-year-old Indian-origin men in connection with the murder of Sikh businessman Harjit Dhadda, who was shot multiple times in a parking lot in Mississauga, Ontario, on May 14. The arrested suspects have been identified as Aman and Digvijay, both from Delta, British Columbia.
The Sikh victim was from Uttarakhand and ran a trucking safety and insurance consultancy in Brampton, Ontario. Days before the murder, the deceased had informed police about the constant threats he was receiving from extortionists. His daughter Gurlin Dhadda, visibly angry, has blamed the Canadian government for failing to stop the extortion and targeted violence.
“Why are innocent people left defenseless despite the increasing threats? When authorities fail to protect us, what options do we have?” he said in a statement released a day after his father’s murder.
On May 14, Dhadda was approached by suspects and shot multiple times in a parking lot near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way in Mississauga. The victim later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
