The letters written to various international organisations underscore the urgent need to include Punjab's border communities in the narrative of nuclear justice.

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir, the Regional party of Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has written various letters to international organisations regarding the concerns of people living in the border areas of Punjab.

The letters written to various international organisations underscore the urgent need to include Punjab’s border communities in the narrative of nuclear justice.

Simranjit Singh Mann’s SAD (Amritsar) has written these letters to international organisations, namely ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons), Pugwash, SAFMA, AMAN KI AASHA, (UNHRC) UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL, (OHCHR) OFFICE OF THE HIGH COMMISSIONER OF HUMAN RIGHTS, UNITED NATIONS OFFICE FOR DISARMAMENT AFFAIRS (UNODA), UNITED NATIONS SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR OF FREEDOM OF  RELIGION OR BELIEF.

SAD (Amritsar) raised concerns of Punjab Border belt in connection with recent terror attack in Pahalgam which claimed lives of 26 people.  It feared the repetition of the 2016 episode, wherein following terror incidents in Kashmir, entire border villages in Punjab were issued evacuation notices and people were displaced in the name of national security.

The letter lays impact of nuclear weapons destroying Punjab and the people of Punjab being prone to the border. The letter appeals for no usage of nuclear weapons if war like reasons persists. It further demanded to include voices from Punjab’s nuclear-vulnerable regions in disarmament advocacy platforms.

It further highlighted South Asia as one of the world’s most dangerous nuclear flashpoints and collaboration with grassroots groups in Punjab to spread anti-nuclear awareness
