A car crushed a police personnel and a person at a check post set up for Holi on Friday morning at the Zirakpur border in Chandigarh. All three died on the spot in the accident. The speed of the car was so high that all three people got stuck in the barbed wire installed for security and their bodies were torn into pieces.
The deceased include constable Sukhdarshan, home guard volunteer Rajesh and a person. The person has not been identified yet. As soon as the information was received, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur herself reached the spot and took stock of the incident. Police have arrested the accused driver on the basis of CCTV footage. A case has been registered against him at Sector 31 police station.
According to the police, constable Sukhdarshan and volunteer Rajesh had stopped the Baleno car for checking at the Chandigarh-Zirakpur check post. Suddenly a high-speed car came from behind. It hit the Baleno car and the policemen standing at the check post.
During this time the car driver was also standing with the police, all three people came under the car in the collision. The police had installed barbed wires at the check post for security. All three jumped and got stuck in the wires and their bodies were torn into pieces. Even the hands and legs of the police personnel were torn apart.
Deceased constable Sukhdarshan’s wife Renu is also in Chandigarh Police. She is posted at Sector-19 police station.
As soon as the information was received, police officers reached the spot. The accused driver fled leaving his car at the spot. After this, the police started searching the nearby CCTV cameras. On the basis of the car number, the police identified the accused and arrested him. At present, the police is interrogating him.
