SPS Parmar License scams: Punjab Vigilance Bureau Chief SPS Parmar suspended, responsibility handed over to Parveen Sinha

Along with Parmar, Vigilance Bureau Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swaranjit Singh and an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Harpreet Singh have also been suspended.

Taking major action in the license scam, the Punjab government has suspended Vigilance Bureau Chief Surinderpal Singh Parmar. Along with this, two other officers AIG and SSP Vigilance have also been implicated in this scam. The government has also suspended both these officers along with Parmar.

Along with Parmar, Vigilance Bureau Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swaranjit Singh and an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Harpreet Singh have also been suspended.

Meanwhile, after this appointment, the Punjab government has appointed Parveen Sinha as the new Chief of Punjab Vigilance.

Parmar was handed over the command of Vigilance in March this year.

SPS Parmar’s tenure as the Chief Director of the Vigilance Bureau was brief, as he was appointed on March 26, 2025, in place of Nageshwar Rao IPS. This is the first time that the Punjab government has suspended an officer holding the post of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and also serving as Director of the Vigilance Bureau, which shows the seriousness of the government in the alleged collusion in the investigation of the driving license scam.

Before his appointment to the top post of the Vigilance Bureau, Parmar served as Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) in Punjab. He was also heading a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Punjab Police to investigate the alleged attack on a serving Army Colonel and his son by twelve police personnel in Patiala earlier this month.

SPS Parmar’s career in the law enforcement field began with his joining the state police service, after which he was promoted to the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2012, whose seniority was recognized in 1997.
