Jalandhar, May 29: Clerical employees under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Mid-day Meal scheme today submitted a demand letter to Aam Aadmi Party President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, seeking their regularisation in the Education Department, similar to the 8.886 teachers who were regularised earlier.
The employees also questioned whether the Punjab bureaucracy is refusing to follow the order issued by the Chief Minister, Finance Minister and even the Party President.
The delegation highlighted that Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had directed officials in meetings held on November 6 and December 26, 2024, to regularise the staff within a stipulated period. However, they alleged that officials from the Finance and Personnel Departments are ignoring these instructions.
They also reminded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in a written order dated April 21, 2022, has approved their regularisation. Similar instructions were reportedly issued by Cabinet Minister Aman Arora multiple times, yet the issue remains unsolved.
union leaders Shobhit Bhagat and Gagandeep Sharma of the SSA & Mid-day Meal Clerical employees Union stated that even the Advocate General of Punjab, in a legal opinion dated March 14, 2024, has supported the regularisation of these employees, confirming that there are no legal hurdles in doing so.
Aman Arora assured the delegation that he would soon facilitate a panel meeting with the Chief Minister to address their concerns. Additionally, he directed education officers to release the pending salaries for December and January, and to accelerate the process of regularisation.
