Sudden weather shift in Punjab: Temperature drops by 8 degrees; heavy rain alert for May 5

The weather in Punjab has taken a sudden turn. On May 2, 2025, the maximum temperature in the state fell to an average of 5.5 degrees Celsius, which was 8.3 degrees Celsius below normal.

On May 2, 2025, the maximum temperature in the state fell to an average of 5.5 degrees Celsius, which was 8.3 degrees Celsius below normal. Due to this drop, the temperature of all the districts came down below 34 degrees, which was being recorded close to 40 degrees.

Gurdaspur was the hottest place in Punjab, where the temperature was recorded at 33.5°C.

  • Amritsar: 30.8°C (-7.2°C)
  • Ludhiana: 30.0°C (-8.1°C)
  • Patiala: 31.7°C (-6.4°C)
  • Bathinda: 30.6°C (-8.2°C)
  • Firozpur: 30.2°C (-9.6°C)
  • Mohali: 30.5°C (-6.6°C)

Light rain was also recorded at some places, like rain was traced in Pathankot and Amritsar. There was no rain in most districts, but the activity of light clouds kept the temperature below.

How will the weather be in the coming days?

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain may occur in many parts of Punjab in the next 5 days. Till May 4, there will be sporadic rain in most districts. On May 5, there is a warning of heavy rain in some parts including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar. An orange alert has been issued in the state on this day. On May 6, the rain will again be limited to some parts.

Temperature dropped due to western disturbance

According to the Meteorological Department, this drop has been recorded due to the western disturbance. The western disturbance is present on the Punjab-Haryana border like a cyclonic circulation. Due to this, strong winds, dust storms and sporadic rains are occurring in the state. As a result, the temperature is falling

There will be a further drop in temperature in the coming 24 hours. After the weather remains normal for a few days, there will be a rise of 2-4 degrees in temperature again in the coming days.

Mohali- The sky will be clear. There will not be much change in temperature. The temperature is expected to be between 25.4 degrees and 38.8 degrees.
