Khanna: Two farmers died in a road accident on Wednesday night in Khanna town of Ludhiana, Punjab. The accident was so terrible that both the farmers died on the spot due to the sugarcane bundles opening from the tractor-trolley going to the sugarcane mill.
The farmers killed in the accident were identified as Gurdeep Singh (35) and Didar Singh (45) of Majri (Payal). Both were going to the sugarcane mill in Amloh with sugarcane from their farm. As soon as they reached near Bahomajra, the rope tied to the sugarcane broke, due to which the tractor lost its balance and climbed the railing. Due to the slope, the sugarcane fell on both the people.
The injured were pulled out from under the sugarcane with the help of passersby.
The team led by Road Safety Force Sub Inspector Sukhdev Singh pulled out both of them from under the sugarcane with the help of passersby. Gurdeep Singh died on the spot, while Didar Singh died on the way while being taken to Khanna Civil Hospital.
After the accident, the family members of the deceased reached the hospital and insisted on not getting the postmortem done. Police had to be called to handle the situation. Police pacified the family members by explaining and kept both bodies in the mortuary of the hospital. Police have started investigating the case.
