Former Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal was shot at during service at Darbar Sahib on December 2. This attack was carried out by Narayan Singh Chaura, who has been associated with pro-Khalistan activities. The incident took place when Sukhbir Badal was serving after the punishment imposed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Suddenly, Chaura fired at him, causing chaos there.
The security personnel took immediate action and caught Chaura, and handed him over to the police. Investigation revealed that Chaura was against the Badal family for a long time and had been accusing them of betraying the Sikh sect. Intelligence agencies had earlier also warned that he could target the Badal family. He came out of jail on bail about ten days ago.
