Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar calls BJP-Akali alliance ‘Essential’ for peace and communal harmony

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has once again called the BJP-Akali Dal alliance necessary.

Amritsar, July 21: Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has once again called the BJP-Akali Dal alliance necessary. While giving an interview to the media, Sunil Jakhar has once again reiterated the need for an alliance between the two parties. He said that once again the situation in the state is becoming like it was in 1996. The alliance was formed for communal harmony and peace. Even today, the same need exists, both the parties should come together.

Jakhar said that the party should win the trust of the people and not just the elections in Punjab. Punjab is not just a piece of land, but the people here give great importance to their honour and culture. ‘Pagri’ and ‘Dastar’ are not just a dress here, but a symbol of self-respect.

He said that Punjab’s self-respect and nature of protest is linked to the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, which talks about standing up against injustice and oppression. Even though the BJP did nothing wrong with Punjab in the past, today it is facing the anger of the people because it is in power at the Centre.

Some forces in the administration are influencing Punjab’s decisions. Sunil Jakhar alleged that there is interference of a “deep and permanent system,” i.e. bureaucracy in some administrative decisions related to Chandigarh and the Center. Due to which Punjab is suffering losses. He said that tampering with the 60:40 ratio of Punjab-Haryana officers in Chandigarh, the appointment of Chief Secretary in place of UT Advisor and giving BBMB posts to others instead of Punjab, all these things have caused discontent among the people of the state.

He reiterated that he was not allowed to become CM due to a Hindu face

He said that BJP got 6.6% votes in the 2022 assembly elections, which increased to 18.56% in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He accused the Congress of dividing people in the name of religion and now that is the biggest challenge for the BJP.

Jakhar said that when Captain Amarinder Singh resigned in 2021, the Congress did not allow him to become the Chief Minister just because he is a Hindu. He said that it is wrong to look at Punjab from the point of view of religion. Punjabiat means secularism, which the Congress has failed to understand. He called the Congress the biggest threat to Punjab.

“Punjab wants respect , not compensation

Jakhar said that Punjab today needs the support of the central government, but that help should be with respect and affection. He said that BJP will have to re-establish a relationship with Punjab on the basis of the basic principles of the Sikh tradition – service, respect and honesty. Punjab wants respect and identity, not just compensation or political benefits.
