Tarn Taran, May 16: Tarn Taran police has seized 85 kg heroin while busting an international drug syndicate in the biggest narco smuggling operation of 2025. The network was operating under the patronage of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI and was being operated by UK-based drug handler Lalli.
Amarjot Singh alias Jota Sandhu, resident of village Bhittewad, Amritsar (rural), the main operator of this network based in India, has been arrested. According to the police, Amarjot used to receive consignments of drugs from smugglers across the border and supply them to various parts of Punjab. His residence was being used as the main hideout for this network.
The police have recovered 85 kg of heroin from his hideout, which is said to be worth crores of rupees in the international market. An FIR has been registered in this regard under the relevant sections and further investigation is underway.
International connection is being investigated
Tarn Taran police have confirmed that the network was being operated from Pakistan and there are indications of ISI’s involvement in it. A smuggler named Lalli, based in the UK, was controlling the entire network, while local agents like Amarjot handled the delivery and supply at the ground level.
Police said that they are deeply investigating the backward and forward links of the network. More arrests and recovery of drugs are possible in this.
Strict action and vigilance of police
Senior officials of Tarn Taran police have termed this action a big success and said that complete surveillance is being kept on drug smuggling through drones, tunnels and other means in the border areas.
SSP Tarn Taran Abhimanyu Rana said that we are actively pursuing more clues in this case. More arrests and recoveries are likely in the coming days. Our action against drugs is based on zero tolerance.
