Survey of India releases map report on Punjab and Haryana High Court building dispute

. The drone survey report was to be submitted by IIT Roorkee on June 23, but on Friday once again IIT Roorkee sought some more time to submit the survey report.

Chandigarh: The building of the Punjab and Haryana High Court falls in the Sukhna catchment area; hence, expansion or additional construction cannot be done. This has been said in the survey report presented by the Survey of India during the hearing of the case. The advocate of Chandigarh Administration told the court that parking is being prepared for the High Court behind the MLA Hostel in Sector-4, whose tender and work have been allotted. The parking lot has been named in the name of the High Court, where there will be parking facilities for 300 vehicles.

On the orders of the High Court, IIT Roorkee conducted a drone survey of the High Court building on 8 and 9 June. It was also important to know how much weight the heritage building of the High Court can bear and how much load it has at present. The drone survey report was to be submitted by IIT Roorkee on June 23, but on Friday once again IIT Roorkee sought some more time to submit the survey report.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court, bypassing the mapping report of the Survey of India, asked them to conduct a physical survey. The team will soon conduct a physical survey from Sukhna to the High Court and find out whether the High Court falls in the catchment area or not. Only after the report will it be decided whether the High Court building can be expanded or not.

The Chandigarh administration has already given land to the High Court in Sarangpur for the extension plan.  The court has said that the said issue is very serious because there is no place to accommodate the High Court staff and the administration is not giving space, so to find a solution to this issue, now the case will be heard every Friday.
