Khanna: The theft took place in broad daylight on Tuesday in Shri Rameshwar Mahadev Shiv Temple Dabbi Bazar in the Samrala area of Khanna in Ludhiana district. Here, a silver leaf (Jalhari) was stolen from Shivling and it weighed about 450 kg of silver.
After the incident, it came to light that the cameras of the temple were out of order for about a month. Due to this, the thieves could not be captured in them. Regarding this, representatives of Hindu organizations expressed anger at the temple management committee and the priest.
However, the police had started investigating this matter.
The temple priest Dhirendra Shastri said that when this theft incident was carried out at 10:30 in the morning, he was eating food in his room. Then, when he came to the temple and saw, the silver leaf was missing from the Shivling.
Shiv Sena Bal Thackeray’s Punjab president Raman Vadera said that such an incident in the month of Sawan is highly condemnable. The committee here is also guilty. Because despite the cameras being out of order for a month, they were not repaired. If the thieves had done any kind of sacrilege, people would have come out on the streets. There is a danger of the atmosphere getting spoiled. It would have been better if the temple committee had understood its responsibility and got the cameras repaired, and someone or the other would have been present in the temple all the time. Everyone knows that it is the month of Sawan, and there is a lot of hustle and bustle in the temples. Thieves are also taking advantage of this.
