Bomb threat to Punjab and Haryana High Court: Court rooms evacuated; work suspended till 2 pm

The Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh has received a bomb threat. This threat was sent through an email at 11.30 am. Immediately after this, the court rooms were evacuated.

Chandigarh, May 22: The Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh has received a bomb threat. This threat was sent through an email at 11.30 am. Immediately after this, the court rooms were evacuated. The lawyers also came out of their chambers. After this, teams of Chandigarh Police arrived for investigation.

The High Court premises which have been evacuated are being inspected by bomb and dog squads. No suspicious object has been found so far. In this regard, the High Court Bar Association, Chandigarh immediately issued a notice asking to vacate all the courtrooms and chambers.

After this, an advisory was issued that if anyone sees any suspicious thing anywhere, they should immediately report it. Gagandeep Jammu, Honorary Secretary of the Association, said that the court proceedings will now begin after 2 o’clock.

  • Do not touch any unclaimed object: According to HCBA Secretary Gagandeep Jammu, all members of the bar have been requested to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious or unclaimed object found in the court premises to the HCBA office. As a precaution, all members have been requested to vacate the court rooms immediately. Court proceedings will resume after lunch break at 2 pm today.
  • Emphasis on raising awareness: Authorities have not disclosed the threat, but HCBA has stressed the need to raise awareness. Security measures have been increased. The court administration is working closely with local law enforcement agencies to assess the situation and ensure safety.

The premises were evacuated keeping safety in mind

Gagandeep Jammu, secretary of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, said that there are four to five thousand lawyers in the High Court. Apart from this, 15 to 20 thousand people come here daily for their work. We have vacated the premises keeping security in mind.
