Threat of strike by commission agents and vendors of Maqsudan Mandi; Troubled by extortion by contractors

Jalandhar: The commission agents and vendors of Doaba’s largest Maqsuda Mandi in Punjab may go on strike. This will be done because more money than the fixed amount is being illegally charged from the parking and retail vendors inside the Maqsuda vegetable market. This is why the commission agents and vendors are angry. This decision was taken in a meeting held by the commission agents and vendors.

They will submit their demands to the CM of Punjab, the Agriculture Minister, the District Magistrate, DMO, Secretary, and Chairman of Market Committee. If no permanent solution is found, all the commission agents and vendors will go on strike indefinitely. He also said that only the Mandi administration will be responsible for this.

According to the information received, senior leader Dinesh Dhall, a candidate from the North constituency of the Aam Aadmi Party, was mainly called to attend the meeting. All the problems were told to him, and a demand was made to find a solution immediately.

Arhatiya Shanti Batra said, “market committee takes 3 thousand rupees every month and it is always paid in advance. But despite this, the contractor’s men use hooliganism to get slips of 200 rupees each from him twice a day. On one hand, he has already paid 3 thousand rupees but 12 thousand rupees more are being taken from him. This was a shock for all of us. That is why this decision has been taken.”
