Three including village sarpanch drowned in canal, body of one recovered

Three youths including the Sarpanch drowned in the Upperbari Doab Canal of Aliwal village in Batala, Punjab. The body of one of them has been recovered. It is being told that Sarpanch Ranbir Singh of village Bharthwal had gone to take a bath in the canal on Friday. Due to the fast flow of water, he started drowning. To save the Sarpanch, his two companions Makhan alias Makhu and Kartar Singh jumped into the canal but they also got swept away with the water.

When the people around saw the three drowning, they informed the district administration. The administration stopped the flow of water as soon as possible and started searching for the three including the Sarpanch with the help of divers. It is being told that the body of one person Makhan Singh has been recovered on Saturday morning and the search for the rest is on.

At the same time, the family members of the deceased said that all three had gone from home to take bath, but due to the fast flow of water, all three drowned in the water. He said that his companions tried to save the Sarpanch by removing their turbans, but when the turban did not work, he also jumped into the strong flow of water and he too drowned.
