Chandigarh: The time for filing nominations in Punjab Panchayat elections should be extended. Shiromani Akali Dal Sudhar has raised this demand before the State Election Commission. SAD Sudhar said that the nomination process started two days ago but very few nominations have been filed so far.
He added that there are 95 thousand applications left for Sarpanch and Member Panchayats. In such a situation, the process of filing nominations should be extended by four to five days. So that everyone can participate in it. Also, the process of Panchayat elections can be completed in a good way.
Braar also raised the issue of voter lists.
Akali Dal Sudhar leader Charanjit Singh Brar said that it has been two days since the nomination process started. But 784 people have filed nominations for the post of Sarpanch whereas nominations have been made for around 1446 Member Panchayats.
There are about 83 thousand posts of Member Panchayats. While there are about 13 thousand posts of Sarpanch. According to this, 95 thousand nominations are left. If even one application is filed, then the time from 11 to 4 o’clock has been fixed in 150 blocks. Five to six forms will be filled in one minute. Only then all the applications will be done which is not possible. In such a situation, at least five days should be spent on enrollment.
