Chandigarh: The Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Tarn Taran police, successfully arrested two key associates of terrorist Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa Harike, and gangster Satnam Singh, commonly referred to as the Satta Naushehra gang, following a brief exchange of gunfire, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Friday.

The individuals apprehended have been identified as Mehakpreet Singh and Yuvraj Singh. During the operation, police also seized two advanced pistols, including a 9 mm Glock and a .30 calibre PX30, in addition to cartridges and empty bullet casings.

DGP Yadav noted that preliminary investigations suggest that the two suspects were being directed by foreign handlers to execute targeted killings in Punjab. “By apprehending these two operatives, the Punjab Police have successfully prevented potential targeted killings and other serious crimes in the state,” he stated.

Additional Director General of Police, AGTF, Promod Ban, mentioned that the accused were linked to the shooting incident at the home of a sarpanch in Tarn Taran. Reports indicate that on the night of March 26, two men on motorcycles fired gunshots outside the residence of the sarpanch in the Naushehra Pannuan village.

He explained that AGTF teams, under the guidance of AIG Sandeep Goel, along with Tarn Taran police teams supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Rana, were actively tracking the culprits involved in the shooting incident and eventually located the suspects wandering in Naushehra Pannuan based on human and intelligence inputs.

AIG Goel stated that upon intercepting the suspects, they opened fire at the police in a bid to escape, prompting law enforcement to retaliate in self-defense. SSP Rana confirmed that both suspects sustained bullet injuries during the confrontation and have since been admitted to a local hospital. The police successfully recovered the sophisticated firearms from their possession during the operation.
