Jalandhar, June 22: An unidentified vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian near Lidhran village on the Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway in Punjab. The victim died on the spot due to the severity of the impact. As of now, the deceased has not been identified.
Repeated accidents in the same area
According to locals, this stretch of the highway has witnessed several similar accidents in the past. The latest incident occured near the service lane of the Lidhran bridge, a location known for being accident prone.
Bystanders present during the incident
Witnesses stated that several people were nearby at the time of the incident. Fortunately, only one individual was hit by the vehicle. Eyewitnesses said the man was walking when a speeding vehicle struck him from behind with great force.
Severe injuries led to instant death
The accident was reportedly so gruesome that the victim’s leg was badly crushed, leading to his immediate death. Passersby quickly informed the Jalandhar Rural Police Control Room.
Police launch an investigation and search for the vehicle
Soon after the incident, police from the Maqsudan Police Station arrived at the scene. ASI Rajinder Singh collected evidence from the crime scene and sent the body for postmortem at the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar. A case will be registered shortly, and a search has been initiated to trace the unidentified vehicle that fled the scene.
