Chandigarh: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has reached Chandigarh today (Sunday). Senior party leaders welcomed her upon reaching the BJP office in Sector-33, Chandigarh. This time, the BJP could not win a seat in the Chandigarh Lok Sabha elections. BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon was defeated by India Alliance candidate Manish Tiwari by 2500 votes. A demand for increasing the budget can be raised by the Union Finance Minister today. Apart from this, matters related to VAT will be discussed.
Many projects are going on in Chandigarh that need money. Because the central government has to spend 80 per cent of Chandigarh’s share in the metro project. Twenty thousand crores are expected to be spent on the project. At present, a budget of 65 thousand crores has been allocated to Chandigarh. A separate budget can be demanded from the Center for the Municipal Corporation.
Punjab BJP leaders have also met the Union Finance Minister in the last few days. Among them, BJP leader Taranjit Singh Sandhu from Amritsar has also met Sitharaman. He has also raised Punjab’s issues regarding the budget. Similarly, Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu has also met her. This time, Punjab has a lot of expectations from the budget.
