Ludhiana:

Two days after Gurwinder Singh, a deportee from the US, was arrested immediately after landing in Ludhiana on Sunday, the police have registered an FIR against five individuals including former village Sarpanch under charges of fraud and human trafficking.

A case has been registered against accused, identified as Charanjit Singh, former sarpanch of Sasrali Colony, Nishant Kumar from Lucknow, Sandeep Kumar from Delhi, Ravinder Deol from Mohali, and Satnam Singh, under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 370 (trafficking of persons), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of BNS, along with Section 24 of the Immigration Act at Meharban police station.

The FIR has been lodged on the basis of the complaint lodged by Gurwinder’s wife Hardeep Kaur of Sasrali Colony of Meharban.

As, according to the police, Gurwinder was facing several FIRs in Ludhiana and Faridkot due to which he couldn’t get police clearance for overseas travel, Kaur in her complaint had claimed that the accused had orchestrated her husband’s illegal migration to the US through fraudulent means.

She mentioned that Nishant Kumar, an agent based in Lucknow, facilitated the issuance of a new passport for Gurwinder using a fake address in Lucknow, charging Rs 12 lakh for the service.

Kaur added that before reaching the US, Gurwinder had been sent to multiple countries, but he was deported from each of them. She alleged that the accused extorted a total of Rs 69 lakh from the family under the pretense of arranging a secure migration process.

Investigating officer ASI Gurbakhshish Singh said that an FIR has been registered and further investigation has been initiated into the matter.

As Gurwinder is currently lodged in jail, the police are looking forward to bringing him on production warrant for questioning.
