Chandigarh: The UT Estate Office of Chandigarh is all set to crack down on scrap dealers and scrap dealers violating government rules. Taking strict action against violations of environmental norms, the UT Estate Office, led by Estate Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh, has initiated decisive action against scrap dealers and scrap dealers operating illegally in the agricultural land of villages in UT Chandigarh.

In a recent meeting with all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs), Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh stressed the urgent need to curb the illegal construction of shops and scrap separation areas by scrap dealers. These activities have caused considerable pollution, contaminating both air and water through ground seepage. While reviewing the action under the Perimeter Control Act, SDM East informed me that 332 notices have been issued to the violators in the East sub-division.

The scrap dealers and kabaddi dealers have challenged these orders in the High Court. The matter is sub-judice. The department is actively pursuing the matter in the High Court, and as soon as a decision is received, necessary action will be taken.

Similarly, SDMs in the South and Central divisions have been directed to conduct surveys within the next three weeks. These surveys will identify any violations of the Perimeter Control Act, and notices will be issued to the scrap dealers operating illegally in the UT Chandigarh area.
