Vigilance bureau caught ASI red handed for taking Rs 6000 bribe

Sangrur: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has caught an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Rajwinder Singh red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs.6000

Giving information in this regard, the spokesperson of State Vigilance Bureau said that the above accused has been arrested on the basis of the complaint lodged by Anup Singh, a resident of Lehra city.

He further said that the complainant contacted the Vigilance Bureau and told that his relative Parvinder Devi was staying on rent at Gaga village and landlord locked the part of the house where her belongings were kept. She had filed a complaint against his landlord Rakesh Jindal at the Lehra City police station.

She said that ASI was not listening to her. Complainant further alleged that when she approached ASI, he demanded a bribe of Rs 8,000 in return for returning his belongings from the rented accommodation.

The complainant further stated that the said policeman has already taken Rs 2000 from him and has agreed to take a bribe of Rs 6000 in the second installment.

The spokesperson further said that after the preliminary investigation of this complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap and caught ASI Rajwinder Singh red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs. 6000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

In this regard, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Patiala Range police station of the Vigilance Bureau. He said that the accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and further investigation of the matter is going on.
