Vigilance Bureau nabs clerk of civil surgeon for taking bribe of Rs 35,000

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested clerk Rajwinder Singh (now retired), posted at the Civil Surgeon Office, Pathankot, on charges of accepting bribe of Rs 35,000 during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state.

Giving this information here today, an official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the said clerk has been arrested on the basis of an online complaint lodged by Satnam Singh, resident of Omkar Nagar, Pathankot on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. ,

He further said that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that the said clerk had taken a bribe of Rs 35,000 in exchange for passing his medical bill of Rs 3,13,486.

The spokesperson said that during investigation of the complaint, it was found that the said clerk had taken a bribe of Rs 35,000 from the complainant by forging a fake approval letter issued by the Director Health and Family Welfare, Punjab. It has also been revealed that during his tenure he has caused a loss of lakhs of rupees to the government exchequer by creating 16 such fake approval letters.

He said that a case has been registered in this regard under the Anti-Corruption Act in the Amritsar range of the Vigilance Bureau. He said that the said accused will be produced in the court tomorrow and further investigation into the matter is underway.
