Vigilance Bureau nabs lineman for taking bribe of Rs 40,000 to install transformer

Online complaint was filed by Manjinder Singh, resident of village Sangatpura, Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur on the Chief Minister's Anti-Corruption Action Line.

Chandigarh: PSPCL during the anti-corruption campaign conducted by Punjab Vigilance Bureau in the state. Lineman Rajesh Kumar, posted at Office, Umarpura, Block Batala, District Gurdaspur, has been arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 40,000.

Giving information in this regard, the official spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau said that the above accused has been arrested on the basis of an online complaint filed by Manjinder Singh, resident of village Sangatpura, Tehsil Batala, District Gurdaspur on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.

He further said that the complainant alleged in his complaint that he was the owner of agricultural land in village Sangatpura, where he had to install a new transformer for the new connection of his tube well.

In this regard, the said Rajesh Kumar lineman took a bribe of Rs 40 thousand, but did not install the transformer. When the electricity official was demanding bribe, the complainant recorded the conversation and handed it over to the Vigilance Bureau as evidence.

Vigilance Bureau Range Amritsar investigated the complaint during which the allegations were found to be true and correct. In this regard, the alleged accused Rajesh Kumar Lineman has been arrested under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He said that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
