Vigilance Bureau nabs PSPCL JE, Lineman taking Rs 5000 bribe as second instalment

Jalandhar: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended Manjit Singh, Junior Engineer (J.E), and Harjeet Singh, Lineman, both posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office Bhogpur in Jalandhar district red handed while accepting second installment of bribe of Rs. 5000.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused have been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Sumeet Wadhwa, a resident of Sudarshan Park, Maksudan in Jalandhar.

He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that both the accused have been demanding a bribe of Rs 10000 for installing a new electricity meter and replacing old meter at his residence. The complaint informed that the said Lineman had already taken Rs 5000 through UPI payment and demanded the remaining bribe money of Rs 5000.

The spokesperson added that after a preliminary inquiry on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Lineman and J.E. were arrested while accepting the second installment of bribe money from the complaint in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under the Prevention of corruption act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station Jalandhar range and further investigation into this case was under progress.
