Scam of1.84 crore in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Punjab

A vigilance investigation reveals fraud done by preparing fake bills and cases against officers and contractors.

Chandigarh: Vigilance has exposed a scam of Rs 1.84 crore in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Nabha, Punjab. After investigation, Vigilance has registered a case against the officers and the contractor, but the accused have not been arrested yet.

An investigation has revealed that in the year 2018, Nagar Council Nabha received funds under the House for All Scheme (PMSAY). From 01.11.2018 to 06.11.2018, within 6 days, fake bills of development works were prepared, and Rs 1 crore, 84 lakh, 45 thousand, and 551 were embezzled.

A vigilante investigation has revealed that no development work was done from the said amount; rather, the officials, in connivance with the contractor, have embezzled the funds by showing the works as development work instead of building houses for the needy under this scheme.

Earlier, the Vigilance Bureau of Punjab had exposed the rice scam. It was revealed that the contractors and rice mill owners were earning huge income from the rice that was coming under the central scheme. Vigilance had arrested many people in that case and registered a case.
