New Delhi: Today in Rajya Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah briefed lawmakers on the government’s efforts to tackle extremist elements in Punjab, particularly focusing on Amritpal Singh, the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization. He said, “He was trying to become Bhindrawala, who is now peacefully reciting Guru Granth Sahib in an Assam Jail. Shah further underscored the government’s resolve to prevent any form of extremism from gaining ground stating, ” We won’t let danger flourish in the nation because of political ideology. we will nip them in the bud.”
Amritpal Singh, who had been at the center of a massive manhunt, was arrested by Punjab Police on April 23, 2023, after a 37-day search that began with a crackdown on March 18, 2023, targeting Amritpal and his supporters. His arrest marked the culmination of significant efforts by the government to address security concerns related to his activities.
