Chandigarh Meteorological Center Director A. K. Singh says that in the situation of heat wave an alert has been issued for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

The department has its own criteria for declaring heat wave. If the maximum temperature is 4.5 degrees higher than the normal temperature, then it is called heat wave condition.
